**PLEASE NOTE THAT TO HAVE YOUR FILES TRANSFERRED IN A TIMELY MANNER
IT IS IMPORTANT FOR YOU TO FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS. ALL COMMUNICATION
FOR MOVING YOUR WEB SITE FILES AND CHANGES TO YOUR DNS SETTINGS ARE
CONDUCTED THROUGH EMAIL WITH OUR SUPPORT DEPARTMENT**
**PLEASE NOTE THAT IN THE EVENT THAT YOU ARE IN A RUSH TO HAVE YOUR
SITE FILES MOVED DUE TO YOUR OTHER HOSTING COMPANY CANCELLING YOUR
ACCOUNT SOON, YOUR FIRST ORDER OF BUSINESS IS TO BACKUP YOUR WEB SITE
FILES OFF THE OTHER HOSTING COMPANY'S SERVERS. THIS WILL ENSURE YOU
HAVE A BACKUP OF YOUR SITE'S FILES IN CASE WE ARE UNABLE TO MOVE YOUR
SITE FILES PRIOR TO YOUR OTHER ACCOUNT'S CANCELLATION.**
We are able to move your web site files and emails over to our servers for free.
We are also able to change your domain name server settings (DNS) so
that your domain name points to your web site files on our servers as
well, so long as you have a control panel access to your domain name
administration. If you registered your domain name with the web hosting
company that you are currently with or if you transferred your domain
name to your current web host’s registrar you may not have the admin
access to manage your domain name and your web host will have to change
your DNS for you. More information on this below in the section -
CHANGING YOUR DNS SETTINGS:
TRANSFERRING YOUR WEB SITE FILES:
In order for us to transfer your web site files and emails from your
current web hosting provider we will need the login information for
your current web host.
Here are the steps you need to take.
Step 1. First make sure that your control panel logins are working.
Step 2. Email us at Support@GreenGeeks.com
with the subject line (Please transfer my web site files) and in that
email you will need to list your current web hosting provider as well
as where you login for your current web hosting provider and you will
need to supply us with the username and password for your control panel
area for your old web host.
Step 3. Our customer service representatives will get to your
request and will email you back within 24-48 hours. Delays may be
caused by slow upload speed by your current web hosting provider. One
of our representatives will reply to your email once we have completed
the web site file transfer.
CHANGING YOUR DNS SETTINGS:
Our representatives can (in addition to moving your web site files
over) change your domain name server settings (DNS) so that your domain
name will be pointed to our servers.
**PLEASE NOTE** Please do not change your DNS settings nor request
to have your DNS changed to our servers until your web site files and
emails have been uploaded by you or by one of our representatives to
our servers otherwise it will cause your web site to go down.
Here are the steps you will need to take to have your DNS settings changed by us:
Step
1. Confirm you have a login username and password to manage your domain
name. This is different than your web site files – most web hosting
companies use partner registrars to register their clients domain
names, if your domain name was registered by your web hosting company
or transferred to your web hosting company that you are currently with
please confirm with them that you have direct access to manage that
domain name. If you do not have direct access to manage your domain
name you will need to contact your web hosting company to have them
change your DNS. Here are the instructions to provide them for changing
your DNS on your domain name:

Step 2. Once you have confirmed that you have the administrative
login capability to change your DNS with your domain name registrar
please email that information to us in a reply to the email
confirmation we send you about having moved all of your web site files
over to our servers. Please include the login area url as well as the
username and password to go in and administrate your domain name’s DNS
settings.
IF YOU GET LOST OR ARE UNCLEAR ABOUT ANYTHING – please contact our support department.
