Domain Name Transfer Instructions (Primary Domain Names)

Domain Name Transfer Instructions (Primary Domain Names)

This page discusses transferring "primary" domain names to Green Geeks, for an explanation on what is a primary domain name please see below. For transferring and registering non-primary domain names please visit our knowledgebase article: Registering and Transferring additional domains to Green Geeks.

At Green Geeks we offer all of our shared hosting customers a free domain name for life which is always the "PRIMARY" domain name on their account which is the domain they used when they signed up for an account. Now this primary "free" domain name can be a new domain name which we register for them or an existing domain name which they can then transfer to us and which we will continue to renew for free so long as that client is continuing their hosting service with us. To learn more about the free domain for life offer please click here.

Please read all of the information below then once you have done so you may submit your primary domain name and have it transferred to Green Geeks at the DOMAIN TRANSFER FORM PAGE:

In order for us to transfer a client's existing domain name to our registrar several steps must take place and our clients' assistance is required. In order to transfer a domain name to the Green Geeks' Registrar our clients will need to ensure that several required items and/or actions have been taken

Requirements

Please ensure that you have all of the following required items and/or actions before you submit your domain transfer request. If you are looking to transfer a "non-primary" additional domain names (not the primary domain name of your account) Please visit the knowledge base article, Transferring non-primary additional domains to Green Geeks.

The following are the required items and/or actions needed (1-6):

1. Domain has been registered for at least 60 days (there is a domain lock whereby a domain name cannot be transferred until after 60 days of the original registration).

2. Domain name is not expired or close to expiration date (expired domains or domains which are within 14 days of their expiration cannot be transferred and will have to be renewed at the current registrar).

3. Domain name has been unlocked (please contact the current registrar to do so).

4. Domain's name servers are already pointed to the Green Geeks name servers (please contact the current registrar to have them update the domain name's (DNS) name servers to Green Geeks - found in your login email).

5. You have the domain name EPP - Domain authorization code (contact your current registrar to obtain this code).

6. You are the administrative e-mail contact person on this domain name (the administrative email contact person will need to authorize the domain name transfer once the process has begun).

Things to understand.

By submitting the domain transfer form below you will be authorizing us to transfer your domain name from your existing domain registrar to the Green Geeks registrar and your domain name will be subject to our Free Domain For Life Policy. As a requirement above you will need to have changed your domain name server settings so that your domain name points to Green Geeks prior to this domain transfer as the domain name server settings are unable to be reset during the domain name transfer process which takes between 4-7 business days. In addition your participation is required as once a domain transfer is submitted to the registrar an email to the administrative email on file for this domain name and the confirmation link within that email must be clicked on to verify the consent to transfer the domain name. In addition

PLEASE NOTE that the Green Geeks domain transfer form is not linked directly with our registrar and that starting the domain transfer process at our registrar is a manual process which can take a few hours generally but may take up to a day depending on when you submit to the domain transfer form and what day of the week it is.

PLEASE NOTE that this is not the process to transfer your web site files and that this is only the process to transfer your domain name to our registrar, in order to have us transfer your web site files to your account on our servers please go to our site migration instructions.

To submit your primary domain name and have it transferred to Green Geeks as your free domain name for life please go to our DOMAIN TRANSFER FORM PAGE:

NOTE:

Domain transfers are for the primary domain name on our clients' accounts and that the domain name you list in the field below must be the primary domain name on your account. For transferring and registering non-primary domain names please visit our knowledgebase article: Registering and Transferring additional domains to Green Geeks.

By submitting this domain request form, you have read and understood the above requirements and have everything prepared to transfer the domain name.
