Green Geeks additional "non-primary" domain name registration and transfer instructions.

Green Geeks allows our customers to host an unlimited amount of domain names on our web site hosting packages. Green Geeks offers a free domain name with each account which can be either a new domain name registered or a domain transfer and which is always the primary domain name the customer signs up with when they sign up for their account for Green Geeks service.

For those clients who wish to register additional domain names to host or park at Green Geeks and for those customers who which to transfer additional domain names to Green Geeks to host or park there is a special procedure to follow.

Firs you will need to create a new domain registration account at: GreenGeeksDomains.com.  Fill out the create account information, as you are filling out this information please note that you may have to come up with a unique username for the system as clients can register multiple accounts with multiple usernames and you may run into duplicate username instances.

PLEASE NOTE: That registering and transferring domain names into your new Green Geeks Domains account costs $9.50 per year per domain. It is your responsibility to monitor and manage all domain names in your account.

Registering Domain new names:
Once you have successfully created a Green Geeks Domains account you will be able to login to the account (PLEASE BE SURE TO KEEP YOUR LOGINS TO THIS ACCOUNT WHERE YOU CAN FIND THEM) you will then update the credit card settings so that the system can bill you for any purchases.

Before you make any domain name purchases you will want to setup your Domain name Server Settings which you do in the General Settings of your account in Green Geeks Domains. Click on General Settings then scroll to the bottom of the next page and you will see:
Default DNS Records  Our DNS or Custom
Click on Custom
5 Fields appear, You will be putting the DNS records into the first 2 fields.

Now depending on whether you are a shared or reseller hosting client will determine what information you put into those 2 fields.

Shared clients put in the following
Field #1: ns1.greengeeks.com
Field #2: ns2.greengeeks.com

Reseller clients are able to put in their own custom DNS settings into those fields or they can put in the following generic reseller DNS:
Field #1: ns1.websitehostserver.com
Field #2: ns2. websitehostserver.com

For resellers looking to setup their own Private DNS records please view this knowledge base article.

Once you have updated the system for the billing/credit card information and you have set the DNS records to either your shared or reseller DNS records  you can search for a new domains to buy in the Domains -> Purchase area. Once you purchase a domain name it will become registered under your account & the DNS settings will be updated based on what you setup for the DNS records.

Transferring non-primary domains:

Once you have created your Green Geeks Domains account you are able to transfer a domain name from another registrar into this registrar account. To Transfer a domain name to your Green Geeks Domains account you will need to have in your possession certain requirements. The requirements are:

1. The domain name you wish to transfer will have to have been registered for at least 60 days and the domain name must not be within 14 days of the renewal date for the domain name. If you are within 14 days of the renewal date of the domain name you will need to renew that domain name before you transfer it to your Green Geeks Domains account.

2. The domain name must be unlocked by the current registrar, please contact the current registrar to unlock the domain name.

3. You will want to have already pointed the domain name's DNS settings to the DNS you wish to use for that domain name as the DNS settings cannot be updated while a domain name is in the process of transferring.

4. You will need to obtain an EPP code from the current registrar which is the authorization code which will allow you to transfer the domain name.

5. You will need to have access to the administrative email on record for your domain name because once you start the registrar process an email will be sent to the administrator on file for the domain name with a link to click to verify the consent to transfer the domain name.

Once you have confirmed that you have all of the requirements for transferring a domain name you will login to your Green Geeks Domains account and in the Transfers Section click on transfer. There you will see a large field within that page. This is where you will put the domain name you want to transfer then a comma a space and then the authorization code. So let's assume that your domain name is: domain1.com
and your EPP code is:
fg24t5wfrt35

Within the field you will put in the domain and EPP code like this:
domain1.com, fg24t5wfrt35

Please note that you do not want to put in the WWW. before the domain name, just put in the actual domain name WWW. is not part of the actual domain name.

Next step is to look for the email confirming that you would like to transfer the domain name into your account and to click on the confirmation link within that email so that you confirm you would like to have the email transferred to your Green Geeks Domains account.

Once you have done this the domain name transfer will take between 4-7 business days. You will need to login to your Green Geeks Domains' account in order to verify that the domain name transfer has taken place.
