Your domain name rights & responsibilities

1) Green Geeks offers a Free Domain name for life which is explained in the knowledge base article:  Free Domain for Life Explained. Green Geeks also allows customers to host an unlimited amount of domain names through the addon domain function in the client's control panel and you can find articles regarding addon domains at: Addon Domains. If a Green Geeks customer would like to have another domain name purchased as an addon or a parked domain name they can do so at the cost of $9.50/yr per domain. The customer would need to open an account at GreenGeeksDomains and purchase the domain there or they can purchase the domain name at another registrar and point the DNS to the Green Geeks name server settings for the domain to be able to go live on our servers.

To learn how to register additional domains with our Green Geeks Domains service please read:
Registering and Transferring additional domains to Green Geeks.

If you would like to register a domain name at another registrar and then learn how to point your domain name to our servers please read:
What are the GreenGeeks Name Servers (DNS) settings and how do I change my DNS?

2) Other than the primary domain name, domain name purchases have annual renewal charges. Please see our FAQ: Free Domain For Life: http://www.greengeeks.com/kb/idx.php/7/001/article/Free-Domain-for-Life-Explained.html for more information on our Free Domain offer.

3) Whether you have had Green Geeks register your domain name or if you register the domain name yourself at GreenGeeksDomains.com it is the responsibility of our customers to ensure that their domain names are renewed, if you want help ensuring that your domain name has been renewed please contact a Green Geeks service representative. Green Geeks does renew domains for our customers, however because of the intellectual property value of those domains the ultimate responsibility to make sure that the domain has been renewed is the customer's responsibility. You may find the renewal date for your domain names by going to http://whois.domaintools.com/ and typing your domain name into the domain look up field

Please be sure to write down the expiration date of your domain and ensure that it gets renewed. If you have 1 or 2 domains we recommend you using a calendar to alert you as to when your domain will renew. If you have more than a few domains you may want to keep a document with each domain and renewal date to make sure you follow up on the renewal of your domains. You can always contact a Green Geeks representative for answers to questions on your domain renewal.

You can view your domain's expiration date by typing in your domain name at:
Whois.sc and look for the domain expiration date. Your domain renewal date should update within 48 hours of renewing that domain.

4) Transferring your domain name; it is the client's responsibility to ensure that their domain is fully transferred to Green Geeks. When you sign up with Green Geeks you may sign up with an existing domain name and you can either leave that domain at it's current domain registrar or you can transfer that domain name to the Green Geeks' registrar. Green Geeks does not automatically transfer domain names to our registrars when our clients sign up for an account using an existing domain name. Green Geeks representatives do assist with the domain transfer for our clients.

To transfer a primary domain name to Green Geeks please read the article:
Domain Name Transfer Instructions (Primary Domain Names)

If you wish to transfer a non-primary domain name please read:
Registering and Transferring additional domains to Green Geeks.

Please note that domain names cannot be transferred within 60 days after a domain name has been purchased or renewed and domains cannot be transferred within 14 days prior to a domain name's renewal, those domains are effectively locked at those times.

5) You are only eligible for only One free domain name for life. That domain is either a new domain OR a transferring domain.

8) Additional domains purchased through Green Geeks are $24.95/domain/year.
