Free Domain For Life - an Explanation

GreenGeeks.com offers a free domain name to each customer for each hosting package that belongs to the customer, any domains we register we do so on our customers' behalf and the domain names are theirs, we do not own them however through our registrar we manage the registration and administration for the domain name.

The free domain name for life offer is only available for Green Geeks customers in good standing in their hosting accounts and for only the primary domain name on the account, which is the domain which was used when a customer signed up with Green Geeks through our online form or through one of our representatives by phone. In addition the Free Domain For Life is only available on the 1 yr, 2 yr or 3 yr eco-site shared web hosting packages.

For our own protection against fraud we do not allow customers to change the primary domain on their account so we do ask that our customers choose their primary domains with care prior to signing up so that they are assured that they get the free offer for a domain they want.

Green Geeks will renew the domain name for free (.com, .net, .org, biz, .info) when required by the central domain registry when it comes up for expiration so long as that customer's hosting account is in good standings and continuing to host through Green Geeks.

If you already own a domain name you can take advantage of the free domain name for life offer by transferring that domain name to the Green Geeks registrar and when your domain comes up for renewal we will renew it for free.

Because Green Geeks incurs a cost when we register domain names we cannot offer a refund for the domain names we have purchased for our clients. For those clients who purchase an account eligible for a free domain for life and then cancel within the 30 day money back guarantee we do not offer a refund for the domain expense so the refund is the cost of the 1yr, 2yr or 3yr package, less any discounts provided through coupons and then less the domain cost of $24.95.

We have estimated the cost of the domain name at $24.95 for these expenses:
1. The cost of the domain at $10
2. The cost of having our staff change the DNS, assist in the domain transfer and other domain management at $14.95

If you purchase an account eligible for a free domain with us and cancel after the 30 day money back guarantee then there is no $24.95 cost to have our staff assist you to move your domain to another registrar. Clients who cancel their hosting accounts and who wish to keep their domain name active must transfer the domain name to another registrar prior to the renewal of their hosting account because Green Geeks will not renew a domain name for a canceled hosting client. 

If a Green Geeks client who had canceled their hosting account where the account had a free domain for life and then the domain comes up for renewal and the domain name had not been transferred to another registrar the former client will have to renew the domain name with Green Geeks registrar and the cost is $24.95. If the expired domain name is not renewed before the redemption period (which is typically 30 days after renewal) the domain name can go into a redemption period with the domain registrar where additional fees (from our domain registrar) may apply to the renewal of the domain name during the redemption period.
