Information: Transfering Domains, vs. Changing Your (DNS) Name Server Settings

You have just purchased a Green Geeks account and you already own your domain name. For the sake of this article, this domain you already own can be your primary domain name or an additional (Add-On) domain for your account.

In order for that domain name to be connected to the place on the Green Geeks servers where your web site files reside those domains must be pointed to our Name Servers (aka DNS). The Green Geeks (DNS) Name Server settings are:
Primary -   NS1.GREENGEEKS.COM
Secondary -  NS2.GREENGEEKS.COM

**The Name Server (DNS) settings are essentially the life line between your domain in cyber space and the web site files you create and update which reside on our servers. If you have posted web site files on our servers and you point your domain name to our servers through the (DNS) Name Servers then your web site will be visible when you type in your domain online.**

From here you have 2 options, you can transfer the domain name to our registrar.

1. Transferring your domain name to Green Geeks can take a couple of days and after you do so we will update your name server settings so that they point to the Green Geeks Name Servers. Also when you transfer your domain name to us we will renew your domain name each year, if this is your account's primary domain the renewal will be free (as per our Free Domain For Life offer). Here are the instructions for transferring primary domains to us:
Domain Name Transfer Instructions (Primary Domain Names)

If the domain name you want to transfer is an additional domain name (not the primary domain name on your account) you will need to create a Green Geeks Domains account and have it transferred to that account, the FAQ below will tell you how to do this.
