**PLEASE NOTE THAT TO HAVE YOUR FILES TRANSFERRED IN A TIMELY MANNER
IT IS IMPORTANT FOR YOU TO FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS. ALL COMMUNICATION
FOR MOVING YOUR WEB SITE FILES AND CHANGES TO YOUR DNS SETTINGS ARE
CONDUCTED THROUGH EMAIL WITH OUR SUPPORT DEPARTMENT/SITE MIGRATIONS TEAM**
**PLEASE NOTE THAT IN THE EVENT THAT YOU ARE IN A RUSH TO HAVE YOUR
SITE FILES MOVED DUE TO YOUR OTHER HOSTING COMPANY CANCELLING YOUR
ACCOUNT SOON, YOUR FIRST ORDER OF BUSINESS IS TO BACKUP YOUR WEB SITE
FILES OFF THE OTHER HOSTING COMPANY'S SERVERS. THIS WILL ENSURE YOU
HAVE A BACKUP OF YOUR SITE'S FILES IN CASE WE ARE UNABLE TO MOVE YOUR
SITE FILES PRIOR TO YOUR OTHER ACCOUNT'S CANCELLATION.**
Note: Free Migration Service for Resellers is only available for cPanel/WHM hosting accounts. Customers switching from another provider that is not cPanel-based, will have to manually migrate to our service.
Step #1: Preparing cPanel Backup Files for Restoration
You will need to create cPanel backup files for each of your hosting accounts that you wish to move to us. Follow the steps below at your old (existing) reseller hosting provider and for each of your cPanel accounts do the following:
- Log into cPanel and click on Backups
- Click on the Download or Generate a Full Web Site Backup
- You will see a screen similar to this:

Ensure the settings are as follows:
- Backup Destination: Select Remote FTP
- Email Address: Enter your e-mail address to receive confirmation
- Remote Server: GreenGeeks IP or Servername with us (Found in Welcome e-mail)
- Remote User: GreenGeeks cPanel Username (Found in Welcome e-mail)
- Remote Password: Associated Password (Found in Welcome e-mail or what you set it to)
- Port: 21
- Remote Dir: /
When the backup of each account is completed, you'll receive a confirmation letting you know it's done and uploaded to the server.
Reminder: Be sure to make sure you have given your main cPanel account enough disk space and bandwidth to avoid transfers failing due to quota's being exceeded. You can do this through the WHM via Quota Modification and Limit Bandwidth Usage.
Step #2: Notifying our Site Migration team for Restoration
After preparing the backups and transferring them to our servers, you will need to notify our site migration team to "restore" the accounts on our servers. To do this, please do the following:
- E-mail support@greengeeks.com with the subject line: Site Migration: yourmaindomainhere.com. You will be assigned a ticket ID for identification purposes.
- If you're transferring a cPanel account from the old host that has the same domain as your main domain name with us (the domain you set up your account with), please let us know so we can apply the proper permissions required for that account and assign the end-user accounts to the main domain name.
Step #3: Confirmation of Hosting Account Restoration
You will receive a confirmation e-mail from our site migration engineers letting you know that the restoration of the accounts has been completed. The ticket will then be closed as the process has been completed. You will be free to switch to our anonymous name servers or to your private name servers after you've set them up.
Things to be aware of after the migration
- Private Name Servers - If you've set up the private name servers before the migration and have restored your main account from an old backup, we will most likely have to reset up the private name servers. It is recommended that you set up the private name servers AFTER the migration is complete.
- Script Configuration Issues - This may happen due to environment changes. If you notice any issues, please e-mail support@greengeeks.com with the issue so that it may be investigated.
