Industry-wide WordPress Brute Force Attack

What a day…

After we came across some unusual activity on many of our servers, we pushed out an article to help our WordPress users protect their WP-Admin areas from attackers. As the day went on we started to see more of the unusual activity, but this time with tens of thousands of IP addresses. This is a very well organized, highly-distributed global attack on WordPress installations across pretty much every web hosting provider in the industry.

We strongly suggest that you change your password on your WordPress installation. Something that is very hard to guess. lower case, UPPER CASE, 1234’s and $*@#&$’s.

4 Reasons why you should be using CloudFlare

CloudFlare on GreenGeeks

Late last year we announced a partnership with CloudFlare, where we make it easy for you to enable CloudFlare on your account to take advantage of the benefits that CloudFlare offers. If you aren’t using CloudFlare on your hosting account, here’s 4 reasons why you should:

1. Increase in Site Performance

We use the best quality hardware and network available, so naturally our web hosting is already fast… but CloudFlare provides an increase in website performance through their global CDN (Content Delivery Network). When enabled, the CDN will automatically cache your static files (JavaScript, CSS, Images, etc.) on their servers located across strategic data centers around the world. When a visitor visits your website hosted with GreenGeeks, CloudFlare’s Anycast technology will load those static files from a server located nearest to the visitor and your dynamic content will load from our servers. This results in faster load times due to decreased latency between server and visitor. Through feedback from customers, we’ve seen increases of 50% or more on site performance when CloudFlare is enabled.

Do you need VPS Hosting?

We’ve been offering VPS Hosting for quite some time now. We like to give our customers options for when it comes to hosting and that’s why we offer a wide array of hosting solutions, virtual private servers being one of them. However, not a lot of customers know what a VPS is and/or how it works. I’ll try to clear that up and try to make some sense out of it for you.

VPS Hosting Pricing

So what exactly is VPS Hosting?

VPS stands for Virtual Private Server and is essentially a server within a larger host server, often called a hardware node. What we’re able to do is take a server with lots of resources (CPU, Memory, Disk Space, etc) and slice it down to smaller servers through virtualization technology. The smaller servers or VPS’ look and feel the same as a dedicated server except that they are residing on hardware that is shared with other VPS’.

Increased Performance & Reliability

What a summer! Upgrades galore!

One of the unique things about GreenGeeks web hosting is that we’re always looking for ways to provide our customers with the best possible hosting experience. This is what sets us apart from the competition. I’ve worked at other hosting providers where there were no advancements. It was boring and it really affected the customers’ chance of succeeding online. Not at GreenGeeks though, we’re always hungry for more. We’re always testing new hardware, new software, new security tools, etc. Anything that would benefit our customers. Continue reading “Increased Performance & Reliability”

Go Faster with EcoSite Premium

EcoSite PremiumOur Ecosite package is pretty amazing because it gives you so many great features like unlimited disk space, bandwidth, and email addresses. But what about our customers who are running more robust systems that need greater RAM, CPU, and process resources? In the past, we have moved these customers up to our VPS hosting packages, which have served them well. But some customers need more resources, but aren’t quite ready to move up to a VPS plan. We decided to launch our Ecosite Premium hosting package for those customers who need greater resources, without any change in the way they manage their site. Ecosite Premium features:

  • Double the RAM, CPU, and Processes of our Ecosite packages
  • Fewer customers per server for even greater site performance
  • Direct access to our nightly backup servers to restore files at any time
  • Free dedicated IP

WordPress is by far the most popular content management system we host here at GreenGeeks. I had the pleasure of sitting down with our System Adminstrator Karl Davids today to go over what makes GreenGeeks the perfect WordPress hosting provider.

Q:  So Karl, What do you do here at GreenGeeks?

A: I am one of the senior systems administrator’s and work to ensure that our entire server fleet are online 24×7 and performing their best. One of my jobs is to ensure our servers work flawlessly with WordPress. Customers will see me around the support desk on occasion as I do quality assurance checks to ensure customers have the best technical experience.

Q: Why is WordPress so important to the hosting industry?

A: WordPress is important to the industry and GreenGeeks for many reasons. It has completely revolutionized the website building process in allowing everyday computer users to create beautiful and useful sites in just a few clicks. Get $75 free AdLeads Credits!

Hey everyone, how about $75 in free AdLeads credits? Exclusively for GreenGeeks customers!

As the newest GreenGeeks partner, we’re excited to take a moment here to introduce AdLeads by Pontiflex.  Since their launch in 2008, Pontiflex has been pioneering the art of performance-based advertising on both web and mobile. Rather than sell accidental clicks or meaningless impressions, they believe in something far more valuable called sign-up ads.

Within minutes, AdLeads help you create a campaign that’ll run across top Android and iPhone apps. When users are interested in your offer, be it a coupon or a newsletter, they sign-up… allowing you to follow-up via email, whenever it’s convenient.

Email is an essential element in all marketing mixes, and AdLeads provides the most affordable and efficient way to grow your lists; companies ranging from Southwest Airlines and Ikea  to cafes and online clothing shops rely on them to generate more than 150,000 sign-ups every day, due to one big reason: emails drive sales.

Great! So how do I get my AdLeads $75 FREE ad credits?
