Green Geeks uses wind power for all of our servers, offices and office equipment. We pull power off of the grid and we replace the amount of power we use with wind energy. In fact we replace, with wind power, 3 times the amount of energy used by our servers, so you can say that your site which you host with Green Geeks is actually working to help save the environment. All of our green energy use is certified by two independent third party organizations.

Enough about Green Geeks and how we use wind powered green energy. We need to look at all of the green energy options available to us; for our homes, businesses and transportation and we need to better understand our choices and what we can do to adapt green energies into our lives.

Wind Power

Wind power can be easily obtained for your home or business through wind power brokers. In essence you pull power off of the grid just like normal but instead of replacing that power with conventionally produced energy, you can replace that power to the grid by buying wind power credits. Everyone now can make a change to renewable wind energy by purchasing wind energy credits for the amount of energy that they use in their businesses and their homes. There are scores of companies who can assist you in this decision and the cost of purchasing wind energy to put back into the grid costs between 20%-30% above your normal energy bill. By purchasing wind energy you are supporting new technologies to bring more cheap wind power to the grid for our energy consumption
           
Solar Power

Solar power has been for years the most viable and predominant option for homeowners and businesses to be able to put to use green energy. The problem with solar is that the purchase and installation costs usually start at over $20,000 and the realization of the return on that investment could take a decade or longer. Most people’s cash flow situations prevented them from going solar.

There is a new option where you can now rent solar panels plus get a free installation which has enabled over 25,000 people to go solar. A company called CitizenRe will rent you solar panels with no setup cost and no installation cost, they do charge a monthly fee which in many cases is far below the average energy costs of a home or business. Solar power is one of our greatest promised sources for renewable energy but for decades the cost have been out of reach for the average consumer. New business models regarding solar energies are allowing more of us to realize the dream of going solar and reaching further toward energy independence.
           
Bio-fuels

Bio-fuels are emerging as a promising alternative to fossil fuels for fueling our cars, busses, farm equipment and heavy machinery. For nearly a century we have relied almost solely upon a steady stream of heavy polluting fossil fuels for our transportation needs. Most scientists predict that within 50 years we will have exhausted all of the fossil fuels available to us, we will need an alternative and one likely alternative appears to be ethanol.

Ethanol nearly zero emission fuel which is produced through a fermenting process (very similar to making beer) and can be harvested from a variety of renewable sources of carbohydrates including sugar, starch and cellulose. Cars, busses, farm equipment and heavy equipment can all run on a high ethanol additive which drastically reduces those vehicles emissions. Most vehicles which use ethanol for combustion do so using a ratio of 85% ethanol and 15% gasoline, often referred to as E85 and the vehicles are referred to as Flex Fuel vehicles.

Production of flex fuel vehicles has soared in recent years, GM boasts that they have produced 2.5 million flex fuel vehicles and we hope that number will continue to rise. It is possible to convert an existing gasoline only combustion vehicle to a flex fuel vehicle, however in the United States the procedure must be certified by the EPA that the converted vehicle meets their emission standards. Bio-fuels like ethanol are a reality for replacing some of our carbon based fossil fuels for our cars. Countries like Brazil have made the investment and now boast almost universal use of E85 gasoline for their personal and private automobiles. Ethanol production continues to rise and E85 vehicles are becoming more available for our use in the future.
