GreenGeeks Backup Policies

How We Protect Your Data

GreenGeeks performs daily disaster recovery backups of our hosting platform.  The backups are retained for 24 hours and then replaced with the most recent backup. Also, we utilize RAID-10 storage arrays on all servers to prevent data loss due to drive failure, and regularly run file system checks to ensure the integrity of the file system. We do not back up VPS and Dedicated Servers.

Are the Backups Publicly Accessible?

The purpose of our backups is to protect against data loss due to hardware or software failure. Customers do not have access to the backups. If you need us to recover files for you, we offer one free restoration per month, per account. Additional restores are available at $25 per restore.

How Do I Request the Restoration of Files?

Open a ticket in GreenGeeks and let us know which files and folders you need to be restored.

Should I Rely on the Disaster Recovery Backups for Maintaining Backups of My Website?

No. While we make every effort to protect your data, we encourage you to make frequent backups of your files and databases. GreenGeeks does not guarantee that our disaster recovery system can restore your website from a specific time period.

Backups are available in cPanel for all accounts under 10 GB. For accounts over 10 GB, we can create backups for $5 per cPanel account.

You can also create your own backups at any time by following our How Do I Create a Backup of My Website? Knowledge Base article.

Does GreenGeeks allow long-term storage for backups I generate?

To ensure disk space on our servers is utilized in accordance with our Acceptable Use Policy and Terms of Service, GreenGeeks does not allow long-term storage of backups within our EcoSite or Reseller plans. This includes long-term storage of cPanel backups, Softaculous backups, or any other backup generated by another application or manually.

Full backups generated from within your GreenGeeks cPanel account using the backup generator will be automatically deleted after 48 hours. GreenGeeks reserves the right to delete any backups stored longer than 48 hours to conserve disk space at our discretion.
