A slow website can hurt your business. People leave, your search rankings drop, and you lose out on sales before they even begin. Most people don’t think about the technical side of hosting until something goes wrong or the site slows down. At GreenGeeks, we believe speed should always come standard, not as an extra.

That’s why we use a mix of technologies to keep your pages loading fast and server response times low, wherever your visitors are and no matter how much traffic you get.
The Storage Foundation
Speed depends on where your data is stored. We use NVMe SSD storage for all our shared hosting plans. NVMe handles random reads and writes much faster than SATA SSDs or regular hard drives, so your server can pull files and database entries more quickly when someone visits your site.
Our storage uses a RAID-10 configuration:
- Data is distributed and mirrored across multiple drives, so if one drive fails, your site continues to run.
- Internal testing showed page load improvements of 50% to 100% after moving from our older SATA-based setup to the current NVMe platform.
- These improvements add up, especially with the many database queries and file retrievals during a typical WordPress or e-commerce page load.
LiteSpeed Web Server and Caching
We use LiteSpeed web servers instead of Apache. LiteSpeed manages multiple connections concurrently using an event-driven system, rather than starting a new process for each request. This means:
- Lower server load as traffic increases
- Faster response times during high activity
LiteSpeed includes built-in caching technology (LSCache):
- Our testing shows WordPress page load times can improve by up to 120% with LSCache.
- The LiteSpeed Cache plugin is pre-installed on all new WordPress sites, so you get the benefits out of the box.
You’ll notice the most significant difference on busy sites or those that use a lot of resources. LiteSpeed keeps things running smoothly, even when traffic goes up or your site needs more power.
Database Performance with MariaDB
The speed of your database affects how quickly dynamic content loads. Every time someone visits a page that retrieves data from the database, faster queries mean less wait time. We use MariaDB 10.5, which improves InnoDB performance and adds the ColumnStore storage engine.
MariaDB processes queries faster than older MySQL versions, which is especially important for:
- E-commerce sites
- Content management systems
- Any application running hundreds or thousands of queries per page load
Saving even a millisecond per query improves your visitors’ experience.
HTTP/3 and Modern Protocols
We support HTTP/3, which uses the QUIC transport protocol. Benefits include:
- Faster connection establishment
- Improved performance on mobile networks
- Better handling of packet loss for smoother browsing
HTTP/3 always uses encryption, so every connection is secure by default. Mobile users and those on less stable connections see the greatest speed boost because QUIC handles lost data more effectively.
PowerCacher Technology
We developed PowerCacher as a proprietary speed tool for our Ecosite Pro and Ecosite Premium plans. PowerCacher includes:
- Browser caching
- Server-side caching
- Cloudflare CDN integration
A case study from Oregon Marketing Pros showed that after turning on PowerCacher, a client’s site load time dropped from about three seconds to just one. This kind of improvement helps lower bounce rates, increase conversions, and boost search rankings.
PowerCacher caches static versions of your pages and files at several points along the path from our server to your visitor’s browser. This way, visitors get the cached version instantly, without waiting for the server to rebuild the page each time.
Object Caching with Redis and Memcached
For sites that use WordPress, WooCommerce, or other apps that rely on the database, object caching can be particularly helpful. We include Redis and Memcached as standard, with no extra monthly cost. They are used as in-memory data stores, keeping frequently accessed data in RAM for faster retrieval. Sites using Redis often load 10% to 30% faster (based on configuration guides). These benefits are especially noticeable in WordPress admin dashboards and WooCommerce checkouts.
Memcached works similarly, storing query results in memory to avoid repeating work. Both Redis and Memcached help your database run smoothly, even when many users visit your site at once.
Data Center Locations
Physical distance between the server and the visitor affects latency. We operate data centers in:
- Phoenix
- Chicago
- Toronto
- Montreal
- Amsterdam
- Singapore
You can pick your server location when you set up hosting, so your site’s data stays close to your visitors.
- Amsterdam is ideal for sites with a European audience.
- Singapore works best for sites with mostly Asian traffic.
- North American sites have several choices based on audience location.
Because we have servers in multiple locations, most visitors connect to the server closest to them. This means your data reaches your audience faster.
Cloudflare CDN Integration
Our CDN setup does more than use our own data centers. Cloudflare has over 200 edge locations worldwide, and our plans include Cloudflare Enterprise features that were previously reserved for large enterprises.
When Cloudflare manages your domain, your web traffic goes through its global network. Static files such as images, CSS, and JavaScript are stored on servers near your visitors. For example, someone in Tokyo visiting a site hosted in Chicago will retrieve these files from a nearby Cloudflare server, rather than waiting for them to travel across the world.
This setup reduces international load times and improves performance for sites with global visitors.
Real-World Performance Numbers
Our infrastructure delivers measurable results:
- Time to First Byte (TTFB) from our servers ranges from 150 to 260 milliseconds under normal traffic conditions.
- Under stress testing, TTFB was 395 milliseconds, with 26 milliseconds of load handling.
Additional results:
- Testing from 40 locations worldwide showed global load times stayed under 1.2 seconds.
- Independent monitoring confirms 99.96% uptime, with less than 2.5 minutes of downtime per month.
- Surveys show our users report 34% fewer outages during peak times than other providers.
Fast load times help keep visitors on your site and can boost your search rankings. Google considers page speed when ranking sites, and people decide quickly based on how quickly your content loads.
Container-Based Account Isolation
We use a container-based architecture built on LXC to provide kernel-level isolation between accounts.
Each account has its own computing resources and a secure virtual file system. This setup also makes things safer, because problems in one account can’t affect the others.
Scalability Without Performance Drops
As your site expands, our hosting grows with you. You can upgrade to higher plans to get more I/O, memory, and CPU power. The Pro and Premium plans give you 6 CPU cores and 8 GB of RAM per container.
Our platform handles traffic spikes with automated tools that add extra capacity when needed. The caching system also scales on its own, so you don’t have to do anything during busy times.
This way, your site continues to run smoothly even during sudden traffic surges. The system adjusts to demand, so you don’t have to guess what you’ll need ahead of time.
PHP and Developer Tools
Server-side scripting speed contributes to overall latency. We support PHP 8.4 and were among the first hosts to offer PHP 8, which delivers faster execution than earlier versions. Our platform also includes:
- Node.js
- Git with native integration
- SSH
- SFTP
- PostgreSQL
- MySQL
- Python
- WP-CLI
Developers have full access to all these tools and technologies, with no extra setup or fees. With fast storage, optimized databases, and the latest PHP, server-side processing is as quick as possible.
What This Means for Site Owners
All these technical features work together to give you hosting where speed comes standard. You don’t need to be a server expert or hire anyone to get fast load times.
We’ve integrated these technologies into a system in which each component supports the others. Fast storage links to optimized databases, which are cached and delivered using the latest protocols from servers near your users. Our container setup keeps things stable and allows resources to scale as needed.
If speed matters to your site, our infrastructure makes a real difference for you and your visitors every day.
