About this Event

WPDiversity Speaker

GreenGeeks is helping the Diverse Speaker Training Group (#WPDiversity) organize and host a workshop: WordPress Speaker Workshop for Women Voices in Latin America

This is a workshop for women in Latin America who are thinking about speaking at a WordPress Meetup or WordCamp.

When we say women, we include anyone who identifies as a woman some or all of the time.

Does the thought of speaking at a WordPress Meetup or WordCamp intrigue you? The focus of this hands-on workshop will be to generate WordPress-related topics to give a talk on, boost your speaking confidence, and allow you to practice speaking in a safe space.

You will have the chance to participate interactively in small groups at your table or even in front of the room (optional).

At the end of the workshop, you will have a few ideas for talks, an outline of one topic, a title, a pitch/proposal for applying to events, and a chance to practice speaking.

You do NOT need any experience in public speaking. This workshop is for all levels of experience.

Why We Are Doing This?

Latin America Diversity Group

GreenGeeks values diversity, particularly empowering women around the world. We see a world where there is a mix of different organizers and leaders, including a mix of genders.

Public speaking is one of the direct paths that opens up great opportunities for people. This is why we are co-organizing this event with #WPDiversity, and working closely with Jill Binder, the lead of the Diverse Speaker Training Group (#WPDiversity), to host this workshop.

I liked that there was no pressure to participate. The tips we learned were useful for all aspects of life. I appreciated the empathy and sorority between women. Before attending, I would not have considered speaking about a topic chosen by me and without anyone asking me to be a speaker. So it pushed me out of my comfort zone. Very grateful!

Alisson Navarro Campos, Developer, San Jose

I like the workshop because it connects women who are going through similar experiences and who may have felt alone in their situation before the workshop. This workshop allowed us to see that we are not alone and that it helps us to recognize our value and qualities through a space that feels very safe and enjoyable.
