Climate Action

Start a Climate Action Movement Today

October 24th is the International Day of Climate Action, and its entire purpose is to show governments around the world that there is a global movement to curb emissions. It began in 2009 and has continued every year in some form.

It was started by 350.org, and supporters of the movement are encouraged to find like-minded individuals and raise awareness. This can be in a variety of forms. These include protests, tree planting, bike riding, and just about anything.

The point is to do it in a big crowd and raise awareness, however, 2020 is a special year. COVID-19 has made large gatherings a health hazard and as such, it is strongly encouraged to go a different route this year.

Here are some ways you can celebrate climate action:

Ways to Promote Climate Action in 2020

1. Organize Virtual Events

Virtual Event

The event is normally supposed to be outside to help raise awareness, but technology has come a long way over the years. And if you want something shared, social media is the place to do it.

A great way to do this is to start groups on your favorite social media platforms. You can easily organize the group to all use a specific hashtag or post pictures on a specific topic. This can help the movement trend, which is the best thing that can happen.

After all, the more eyes that find it the better.

2. Take Action

While gathering in large crowds is not encouraged, it doesn’t mean you can’t take action in smaller groups, like your family.

There are a  variety of activities you can do to encourage climate action like planting trees, cycling, hiking, donating, volunteering, and much more. And remember, it doesn’t have to be a special day to make a difference.

3. Learn About Other Climate Action Movements

A lot happens in the world on a daily basis. There are plenty of new groups and organizations that have formed or are in the process of doing so that are related to the climate movement.

Learning about the ones in your area can open up new possibilities for you in the future. Even if you are not planning to join them, sharing their name on social media or donating can go a very long way.

Live A Green Lifestyle

Of course, the best way to make a difference is to actively try to live a green lifestyle. While this might sound like a big shift, it doesn’t have to be, there are plenty of small changes that can have a large impact.

One of the simplest changes is to buy eco-friendly products. At the end of the day, money talks, and buying products that have small or no impact on the environment can have a huge impact. And recently, this has gotten very easy thanks to Amazon.

They just labeled 25,000 eco-friendly products to help make them easy to identify.

And there are plenty of other simple options to consider like using less electricity, cycling more, gardening, and much more.
